Does search engine optimization (SEO) have a bright future? I don’t think so, in my opinion SEO is doomed to fail. Surprised? Let me explain why I don’t believe in SEO.
In order to keep their users happy, the search engines (SEs) have to return relevant websites with valuable content in the search engine results pages (SERPs).
Unfortunately, search engine optimizers (SEOers) don’t care a lot about providing quality content, their primary goal is to figure out the various search engine algorithms to get a better search engine placement. In other words, SEOers are hurting the search engines credibility by tricking less relevant websites onto the top of the SERPs.
The SEs are getting more and more sophisticated and soon they will be able to accurately recognize the relevance and quality of a website. When that happens, search engine optimization tricks will stop to work and this will probably be the end of SEO.
Why is it so important for the search engines to increase the number of their users and to keep them happy? A search engine is a business and like any other business its goal is to increase market share and to make profit.
The SEs primary source of revenue comes from advertising. Advertisers are paying for placing their ads on the SERPs and hope that many visitors will click on them and buy their products or services.
In order to make a significant profit, a search engine has to attract many users. More users result in more clicks on the ads, which allows the SEs to make more money.
If the search engines fail to provide excellent search results, they will loose not only their users, but also their clients who are paying $$$ for advertising. Obviously that’s the last thing the SEs want and that’s why they are doing everything possible to give their users what they want – relevant websites with quality content.
The goal of a search engine optimizer is to figure out the numerous search engine algorithms in order to find a way to get a better search engine placement without necessarily having to provide relevant and valuable content pages. In other words, they are trying to trick the SEs, which hurts their reputation.
Ok, so what’s the problem with SEO and why shouldn’t you waste your time with it? It is getting more and more difficult and time consuming for SEOers to keep up with the ever-increasing complexity of the numerous search engine algorithms and to keep their pages at a high-ranking position.
Hundreds of brilliant PhDs equipped with the latest technology are working around the clock to make the search engines more sophisticated and to allow them to realize relevant websites with valuable content.
Yes, the search engines are getting more and more intelligent and soon it will be impossible for SEOers to trick the engines in order to get a better search engine placement without providing valuable content.
In the early days of SEO, fooling the search engines was very easy. SEOers used simple strategies, like keyword stuffing and replicated gateway pages to get on top of the SERPs. But the search engines evolved, they found out about these tricks and penalized or even banned the sites that used them.
Sure, new tricks emerged. SEOers used non-replicated, zero-value doorway pages and page cloaking to get top positions. Again, the search engines realized quickly what’s going on and more sites were banned.
Nowadays, it’s already very difficult to fool the search engines and it will get even more complicated. Actually, there are only a handful of specialized companies and individuals who achieve top rankings using search engine optimization.
The rest of the SEOers are merely playing around. They are desperately trying to figure out some new tricks that allow them to artificially improve the ranking of their pages.
What should you do to get a better search engine placement without doing SEO? ● Most important of all, create a high-quality website that provides valuable and problem-solving content for your visitors.
● You have to provide the necessary information that allows the SEs to evaluate the topic of your pages. Therefore you should optimize each of your pages for a specific keyword.
Use your keyword in the title tag, in your headlines, in your links, in the meta description tag and in the meta keywords tag. Additionally, use your keyword throughout the body text of your page.
● Get a few inbound links from credible websites. This will get a newly launched site quickly into the index of the major SEs.
“Make Your Links Work!” and the “SiteSell Value Exchange” are excellent ways to develop high-quality inbound links.
In the long run, that’s surely the best way to get a better search engine placement. If you try to go the SEO route you will most probably fail, because it’s just getting too difficult and time consuming to keep up with the SEs increasing complexity.
Instead of chasing the ever-increasing complexity of the search engines algorithms, I recommend you take the easy path of creating valuable content for your visitors. That way, everyone wins -- you, the search engines and your site visitors.
